Leadership in the age of AI: helping your team adapt
How managers can introduce AI to their teams with clarity, psychological safety and good guardrails, without the hype.
Your team is probably already experimenting with AI, quietly. Good leadership turns that scattered experimentation into shared learning, with clear guardrails.
1. Talk about it openly
Ask the team: where is AI already helping you? Where are you worried? Make it safe to admit both enthusiasm and anxiety.
2. Agree simple guardrails
- Which tools are approved?
- What data must never be shared?
- Where is human review always required?
3. Run small experiments
Pick two or three workflows, try AI for a month, and measure. Share results in a team meeting, including failures.
4. Invest in skills, not just tools
Prompting, critical review of AI output and process thinking are the new core skills. Give people time to learn them; our AI at Work Essentials path is a free starting point.
5. Double down on the human parts
As AI handles more routine work, judgement, empathy, creativity and relationships become more valuable, not less. Recognise and reward them.
